As a Beginner, I am at the very start of my learning journey.  My understanding is primarily theoretical, and I rely on following tutorials and step-by-step guides to achieve basic outcomes.  I can recognize the fundamental concepts and navigate the basic interface of the tools I’m learning, but I struggle to work independently.  When I encounter problems, I need direct guidance and external resources to find a solution.  My focus is on learning the vocabulary and core principles of the skill.

2-Star: ★★☆☆☆ Intermediate

As an Intermediate user, I am building practical experience and can work independently on small, well-defined tasks.  I am moving beyond tutorials to apply my knowledge to simple, original projects.  I can troubleshoot common issues by consulting documentation and can build upon existing templates or frameworks.  My work is functional, though it may lack polish and optimization.  I am focused on applying my knowledge to create functional components and complete smaller projects on my own.

3-Star: ★★★☆☆ Advanced

As an Advanced user, I have a solid and broad understanding of the skill, allowing me to tackle complex features with a high degree of autonomy.  I can architect and implement robust systems from the ground up, not just modify existing ones.  I am comfortable making design decisions and I proactively apply best practices and optimization techniques to my work.  I can effectively contribute to larger projects and mentor those with less experience than myself.

4-Star: ★★★★☆ Professional

As a Professional, I am an expert with extensive practical experience in real-world, shipped projects.  I can lead the architectural design of complex systems and make critical, high-impact decisions.  I am sought out to solve novel and challenging problems with elegant, efficient, and scalable solutions.  My deep understanding allows me to innovate, create custom tools to improve workflow, and reliably deliver high-quality, production-ready work while mentoring other team members.

5-Star: ★★★★★ Master

As a Master, I am a recognized authority and innovator who helps push the industry forward.  My understanding is both deep and wide-ranging, allowing me to not only excel in application but also to contribute to the advancement of the skill itself—through creating new techniques, developing widely adopted tools or frameworks, or contributing to the core technology.  I am a thought leader whose work and insights help define new best practices and inspire and educate the next generation of professionals.
